There is a shortlist at DRT Facebook as well as the usual goals before halftime. Some very tricky matches though. Bayern should see goals before halftime but their opponents had 5 0-0's at halftime away. Similarly Bologna tend to see goals before halftime but Genoa are a Tony Pulis dream team. 0-0 for as long as possible then nick a winner!

ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE

12:30 - Leicester v Stoke - 1.79 Leicester

  • 2-0 Leicester and 2-2 last 2 head to heads.
  • Remember the relatively new manager for Stoke.

Leicester (8th)

  • Unbeaten in 4 at home.
  • No 0-0 at home.
  • Only 2 0-0's at halftime at home.
  • All defeats bar 1 at home came v top 4.

Stoke (19th)

  • 5 matches into Paul Lambert's reign as manager.
  • It started with a 3-0 loss v Man City, 2-0 win v Huddersfield, 0-0 v Watford, 2-1 loss v Bournemouth and 1-1 draw v Brighton.
  • So 2 losses under Paul Lambert away to date.

Conclusions

  • Stoke are still unreadable under Paul Lambert. Leicester are vastly improved at home and I think they will have too much for Stoke in the attacking department.
  • Other than that, few angles to get into.

15:00 - Bournemouth v Newcastle - 2.2 Bournemouth

  • 0-1 Bournemouth in the last head to head.
  • The sides are 5 points and 2 points shy of relegation spots so you feel as March is nearly upon us that the remaining matches, particularly against those 10th and lower, will take on a greater significance.

Bournemouth (10th)

  • Only 1 loss in 8 came away at Huddersfield latest.
  • Scored and conceded in 7 of their last 8 matches.
  • 3 consecutive home wins.
  • Scored in their last 8 matches.
  • Scored 2+ goals in each of their last 4 at home.
  • 5 0-0's at halftime at home.
  • Strong unbeaten form v 12th and lower at home.
  • 3-2-4-1-2 scored v 12th and lower at home.
  • 12 of 18 goals scored at home came 2nd half.

Newcastle (13th)

  • Fat Spanish waiter has tried to instil some defensive discipline of late. 0-1 loss City, 0-0, 0-1 win, 1-1, 3-1 loss City, 1-1, 1-1, 1-0 win Man Utd.
  • If Newcastle continue to concede just the one goal max, that is a great foundation to get something.
  • Bar that coupon busting win v Man Utd, Newcastle have tended to collect points v 12th and lower. They have not met 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th away.

Conclusions

  • This has the feel of attack v defence today. Bournemouth have been scoring 2+ goals v 12th and lower. Newcastle have markedly kept teams (bar Man City) to 1 goal maximum.
  • We might see a match where the first half is barren. Bournemouth scored 2/3rd home goals 2nd half and meet a Newcastle with defensive strength.
  • Bournemouth are scoring and conceding so may give Newcastle a glimpse.
  • As to a strong angle, tough to read given Newcastle's defensive strength and Bournemouth's 2 goals v 12th and lower.

15:00 - Brighton v Swansea - 2.22 Brighton

  • 0-1 Brighton in the last head to head.

Brighton (14th)

  • Unbeaten in 3 matches.
  • Conceded in their last 6 matches.
  • Only 2 0-0's at home.
  • 6 0-0's at halftime at home.
  • Unbeaten at home v 7th and lower. 3 draws and a win at home v 15th and lower.
  • 11 of 15 goals scored at home came 2nd half.

Swansea (16th)

  • 7 matches under the new manager.
  • Win, Loss v Tottenham, Draw, Win, Win, Draw, Win. Superb stuff. Now this is a real manager!
  • 1-2, 1-1, 1-1 away under new manager.

Conclusions

  • I cannot discount Swansea here under this new manager. What a transformation! With Brighton conceding in their last 6 matches, I can see the Swans score.
  • 1-1, 2-1, 1-2 feels like the correct scores to focus on today.
  • I would have to lay Brighton if Brighton scored first. Swans look to have renewed confidence and goalscoring.

15:00 - Burnley v Southampton - 2.86 Southampton

  • 2.86 the favourite.....I think you know what that suggests?
  • 2 consecutive 1-0 Burnley wins in head to heads.

Burnley (7th)

  • A superb season to date.9 points shy of 6th place and 10 points shy of relegation! So despite looking safe, it can be precarious with a slip up or two.
  • No win in 10 is such a slip up!
  • Conceded in their last 6 matches and last 4 at home.
  • Only 1 0-0 at home.
  • 7 0-0's at halftime at home.
  • Only 1 loss at home v 11th and lower.
  • 6 clean sheets in those 8 matches.
  • 70% of home goals conceded 2nd half.

Southampton (18th)

  • Only 1 loss in 5 came v Liverpool.
  • Scored and conceded in 12 of their last 15 matches.
  • 2-2 and 2-3 last 2 away matches.
  • Only 5 clean sheets all season.
  • Not beaten a top 8 side yet this season.

Conclusions

  • There is always a reason for 2.86 odds for a favourite. I think the market is aware of Saints' sudden 2-2 and 2-3 away which is uncharacteristic.
  • On a strict reading of the form, Burnley only have one home loss v 11th and lower, and rarely concede a 2nd goal.
  • Their 6 clean sheets in 8 contrasts markedly with Saint's scoring and conceding in 12/15 matches.
  • Hence the match odds....

15:00 - Liverpool v West Ham - 1.25 Liverpool

  • 0-4 and 1-4 Liverpool in the last 2 head to heads.
  • 16 matches into David Moyes tenure at West Ham.

Liverpool (3rd)

  • Only 1 loss in 18 matches.
  • Failed to score in only 4 matches.
  • No defeat in 13 at home.
  • Scored 2+ goals in each of their last 4 at home.
  • 5 0-0's at halftime at home.
  • 6 draws and 7 wins at home so watch out for a touch of drawitis.
  • 18 of 27 goals scored at home came 2nd half.

West Ham (12th)

  • A good turn around under Moyes.But for me, West Ham struggle to score that 2nd goal v the big boys.0 v Everton, 1 v City, 1 v Chelsea, 0 v Arsenal, 1 v Tottenham.
  • West Ham have scored in 8 of their last 9 matches.

Conclusions

  • West Ham struggle to score 2 goals v big teams and therefore are very limited in their options. 1-0 , 0-0, 1-1 their best case scenario. Liverpool those have scored 2+ goals in each of their last 4 home matches and are likely to overwhelm West Ham....eventually. Note Liverpool's 5 0-0's at halftime at home. Note also team news Liverpool. We want the 3 Musketeers up front.

15:00 - West Brom v Huddersfield - 2 West Brom

  • 13 matches into Alan Pardew's reign as West Brom manager and that is my sole focus for them.

West Brom (20th)

  • 5 away defeats, just 2 at home for Pardew so more hopeful at the Hawthorns.
  • Conceded 3 goals in 3 consecutive matches.
  • Draw, Loss, Draw, Draw, Win, Loss at home under Pardew. Losses v Man Utd and Southampton were 1-2 and 2-3 so tight and competitive.
  • Sole win at home was v promoted Brighton.

Huddersfield (17th)

  • 5 consecutive defeats ended with a 4-1 home win v Bournemouth.
  • 3 consecutive away defeats, conceding in their last 10 away.
  • Only 1 0-0 away.
  • 7 0-0's at halftime away.
  • 1-1 and 2-0 loss away v bottom 3.
  • 22 of 27 goals conceded away came 2nd half.

Conclusions

  • Dare we trust bottom 4?
  • West Brom tend to do their losing under Pardew away and with a recent win v newly promoted Brighton, there is a feeling West Brom will get a positive result today.
  • Huddersfield have lost their last 3 away, conceding in their last 10 away so are likely to concede.
  • No surprises a 0-0 at halftime but a home that we see a 2nd half goal. Huddersfield conceded 22/27 away goals 2nd half.

17:30 - Watford v Everton - 2.34 Watford

Watford (11th)

  • 3 matches in for the new manager.0-0 v Stoke, 4-1 win over Chelsea and 2-0 loss to West Ham.
  • Watford failed to score in 3 of their last 4 matches.

Everton (9th)

  • 13 matches under Sam Allardyce.
  • 4 losses under Big Sam v Bournemouth, Man Utd, Tottenham and Arsenal.
  • Poor away form under Allardyce. Draw, Loss, Loss, Loss away recently.

Conclusions

  • Not for me. New managers bring an element of unreadability.

FRENCH LIGUE 1

16:00 - Toulouse v Monaco - 1.9 Monaco

  • 3-1 Monaco and 3-2 Monaco last 2 head to heads, albeit at Monaco.

Toulouse (16th)

  • Only 3 wins in 16 matches.
  • 1-0 win, 0-1 win, 0-1 loss to PSG and 0-0 last 4 matches.
  • 5 0-0's at halftime at home.
  • All defeats v top 4.

Monaco (2nd)

  • No defeat in 11 matches.
  • Scored 2+ goals in each of their last 6 matches.
  • Failed to score in only 3 matches.
  • Only 1 0-0 away.
  • 13 wins and a draw home and away v 10th and lower.
  • 4-4-4-1-4-1 scored away v 11th.

Conclusions

  • On probability alone, Toulouse are likely to lose or at least draw.
  • Monaco could go to town if clicking. Look how many times they scored 4 goals away v 11th and lower.

Nantes (6th)

  • 2 consecutive score draws.
  • Only 1 0-0 at home.

  • Only 2 away wins v 14th and 20th.

Conclusions

  • As is the norm for Nantes v strugglers, we should expect a 1-0 or a 2-1. Amiens leads therefore are layable for me.
  • No surprises with a 0-0 at halftime given the potential for 1-0. Lay any late 0-0 too.
  • Nantes are solid at home v 10th and lower, albeit in tight matches.

SPANISH LA LIGA

15:15 - Real Madrid v Alaves - 1.16 Real Madrid

  • 3-0 and 1-2 Real Madrid in the last 2 head to heads.

Real Madrid (3rd)

  • Ronaldo was rested at the weekend. Madrid still won.
  • Leganes did score first for a nice trade (did you lay them or back Real Madrid in the halftime market?).
  • 7-4-2-5-5-3 goals scored recently.
  • Failed to score in only 5 matches.
  • No draw in 10 at home.
  • Scored and conceded in their last 6 matches.
  • No 0-0 at home.
  • Unbeaten home and away v 11th and lower.
  • 19 home goals scored first half.

Alaves (15th)

  • 3 consecutive wins.
  • Lost 2-1 to Barcelona recently after scoring first and leading until the 72nd minute.
  • No draw in 11 away.
  • Conceded in their last 7 away.
  • 5 1-0 losses at halftime away.
  • 3 2-1 defeats, 1 2-0, and a 1-0 defeat v top 4.

Conclusions

  • We might see something like a 2-1 today if Alaves click defensively as they did against Barcelona away lately.
  • At their very best Real Madrid will score 3+ goals.
  • I would lay the 0-0 in the halftime score market.
  • Real Madrid have a strong both teams to score pattern. Let's hope Alaves score first as they did v Barcelona.

17:30 - Leganes v Las Palmas - 1.85 Leganes

  • 3-0 and 0-2 Leganes in the last 2 head to heads.

Leganes (13th)

Conclusions

  • This presents an opportunity for a positive result for Leganes. Slightly clouded by the fact they are yet to meet bottom 4 at home, positives include 100% wins v 12th and lower and 2 0-2 wins away from home v the bottom 2.
  • Strong 2nd half goals trend so watch if 0-0 at halftime.

19:45 - Barcelona v Girona - 1.15 Barcelona

  • 0-3 Barcelona in the last head to head.

Barcelona (1st)

  • Unbeaten.
  • Failed to score only last match at home.
  • Only 2 0-0's at halftime at home.
  • Only conceded 2 goals once at home.

Girona (8th)

  • Only 1 loss in 6 matches.
  • No win in 5 away.
  • Not beaten top 14 away.

Conclusions

  • A great season for Girona. Barcelona are highly unlikely to fail to score in 2 consecutive home matches.
  • 1.15 odds suggests 3/4 goals.

ITALIAN SERIA A

  • As one of only 2 Italian Seria A matches, I'll research it despite the off-putting match odds.

  • 2 wins in 3 at home v Benevento and Sassuolo - today is tougher.
  • Only 5 clean sheets.
  • Failed to score in only 5 matches.
  • No 0-0 at halftime in 16 matches.
  • 3 consecutive 2-1's, 2 defeats and a win.
  • No 0-0.
  • Only 1 0-0 at halftime at home.
  • All wins bar one came v 12th and lower.
  • Scored and conceded at home in 9/11 matches v 4th and lower.

Genoa (12th)

  • 3 consecutive wins.
  • 2 consecutive away wins.
  • 7 0-0's at halftime in 9 matches.
  • 8 0-0's at halftime away.
  • Only 2 wins in 16 matches v top 13.
  • Caution away though, 1-0, 1-2 win, 1-0, 0-0, 0-0, 1-0, 0-0 away v 11th and higher.

Conclusions

  • Incongruous first half goal stats so no angle there despite Bologna's strong stats.
  • No surprise with 0-0 at halftime. This is an ultra defensive Genoa and I cannot see Bologna scoring 2 goals today. On that basis I lay Bologna if Bologna score first.
  • Yes Genoa have failed to score in 6 away v top 11 but for me, 3 consecutive wins sees their Tony Pulis 'keep it tight and nick a winner' tactic working. Look at the recent result v Inter Milan and even goal machines Lazio!

19:45 - Inter v Benevento - 1.26 Inter

  • 1-2 Inter the last time these 2 met.
  • No indepth research here.
  • Genoa gave Benevento a hint for how to beat Inter. Keep a clean sheet and nick a late goal or two.
  • 100% loss record away for Benevento should help Inter who have had only 1 win in 10 matches... but only 3 defeats.
  • I would look at a 2-0, 2-1 kind of a scoreline in Inter's favour today. Benevento tend to do their winning at home.

GERMAN BUNDESLIGA

14:30 - Bayern Munich v Hertha Berlin - 1.18 Bayern

  • 1-1 and 2-2 in the last 2 head to heads.
  • The market does not expect a draw today!

Bayern (1st)

  • 10 consecutive wins, 8 at home.
  • Scored in their last 20 matches.
  • Unbeaten in 11 at home.
  • Scored 2+ goals in their last 6 matches.
  • Unbeaten at halftime at home. 6 2-0 leads.
  • Only 1 0-0 at halftime at home.
  • 2-5 goals in wins v 4th-16th.

Hertha Berlin (11th)

  • Only 2 losses in 9 matches.
  • Only 4 clean sheets.
  • 5 0-0's at halftime away.
  • Beat 4th and 5th away but lost 2-0 v 2nd.

Conclusions

  • 1.18 odds suggests 2-5 goals again for Bayern today. Do note the 2 score draws in head to heads. That should end today.
  • I would lay the 0-0 in the halftime score market based on Bayern but note Hertha have had 5 0-0's at halftime away.

14:30 - Hoffenheim v Freiburg - 1.66 Hoffenheim

  • Both teams scored in the last 9 head to heads.
  • 1-1 and 3-2 Freiburg last 2 head to heads.

Hoff (9th)

  • Only 1 win in 7 was a 4-2 home win last match.
  • Failed to score only twice.
  • Scored and conceded last 7 matches.
  • Scored last 11 at home.
  • No 0-0.
  • 5 1-0 leads at halftime at home.
  • 1-1, 1-0, 1-0, 4-2 at home v 11th and lower.
  • 70% of home goals scored and 77% of home goals conceded came 2nd half.

Freiburg

  • Only 1 loss in 11 matches.
  • 3-4, 3-3, 2-2, 2-1 last 4 aways.
  • 5-3-3-3-3-1-2-2 conceded away recently.
  • Scored and conceded last 6 away.
  • Only win v bottom side was a win courtesy of 2 88th+ minute penalties.

Conclusions

  • If Freiburg continue to concede 2+ goals away, then this could present the Hoff (who scored in their last 11 at home) with an opportunity.
  • A strong 2nd half goals bias for the Hoff so fear not a 0-0 at halftime.
  • I would love Freiburg to take a 0-1 or 0-2 lead a I think they would still be layable. That is  if the Hoff take momentum from their 4-2 win latest (negative - the only win in 7).
  • Hoff are one of those rare teams yet to have a 0-0 at fulltime.

17:30 - Werder Bremen v Hamburg - 2.02 Werder Bremen

  • 0-0 last head to heads.

Werder Bremen (16th)

  • Relegation zone something for the new manager (13 matches in) to resolve.
  • No surprises that all of Werder's 5 wins came within those 13 matches.
  • Win Win Draw Draw Draw Win at home under new manager could be the key to surviving relegation.
  • Only 1 of the 13 matches under new manager saw a 0-0 at halftime.

Hamburg (17th)

  • New Hamburg manager only 4 matches in.
  • 1-1, 1-1, 2-0 loss to Dortmund and 1-2 loss v Leverkusen under new manager.
  • Conceded in their last 8 matches - a problem for the new manager.
  • An away side all season with only 1 win v bottom.

Conclusions

  • 2 relegation threatened sides and a new manager for Hamburg. Therein lies the niggle. A new manager could impart significant improvement.
  • On the face of it though, Werder Bremen's new manager is unbeaten in 6 at home with 3 wins and 3 draws and I will side with that form and expect Werder to remain unbeaten today.
  • I would have layed the 0-0 in the halftime score market based on Werder under new manager but we have that Hamburg manager whose new tactics may engender some change eventually.

DUTCH EREDIVISIE

17:30 - AZ Alkmaar v Sparta Rotterdam - 1.3 AZ Alkmaar

  • 1-1 and 0-2 AZ in the last 2 head to heads.
  • AZ a team I like to follow currently.

AZ Alkmaar (3rd)

  • Only 1 loss in 17 matches came v Ajax.
  • 5 0-0's at halftime at home.
  • 8 wins and a 2-2 v 14th and lower saw AZ score 2 goals at least in all bar 1 of those matches.
  • 17 of 23 goals scored at home came 2nd half.

Sparta (18th)

  • Only 3 wins.
  • Only 1 win in 14 matches.
  • No win in 12 away matches.
  • Conceded in their last 12 away matches.
  • 6 0-0's at halftime away.
  • All defeats v top 10 away.
  • All defeats v top 5.
  • 20 of 25 goals conceded away came 2nd half.

Conclusions

  • This could be a 2nd half scoring match so fear not if AZ have not scored by halftime. Sparta's concession rate away 2nd half should ensure 0-0 ends.
  • I do expect AZ to score 2 goals at least today and win.

18:45 - Heerenveen v Excelsior - 1.64 Heerenveen

Excelsior (11th)

  • Conceded in their last 9 away.
  • No away 0-0.
  • No 0-0 at halftime away.
  • 50% 1-1 at halftime away.
  • Required 2 goals for all away wins v 3rd, 7th, 8th, 15th, 16th and 18th.
  • Scored and conceded in all aways bar matches v 1st and 3rd.

Conclusions

  • Lay any late 0-0 for sure.
  • Lay the 0-0 in the halftime score market based on both teams really.
  • 50% 1-1's at halftime away Excelsior suggests we lay Excelsior in the halftime market if they score first and early 1st half.
  • Both teams have strong both teams to score patterns so note that if a team leads 1-0 /0-1 for a while.
  • Heerenveen for me look too short here given they have scored 2-1-1-1-1-2 v 10th and lower. A 1-1 is a distinct possibility.

SCOTTISH PREMIER LEAGUE

15:00 - Rangers v Hearts - 1.59 Rangers

  • 2-1 Rangers, 0-0, 1-3 Rangers last 3 head to heads.

Rangers (2nd)

  • 5 wins, a draw and a loss last 7 matches.
  • Failed to score in only 4 matches.
  • 1-2 loss v Hibs last home match.not had a 2nd consecutive home defeat this season.
  • No draw in 8 at home.
  • Only 1 0-0 at home.
  • Could be vulnerable today. At home, lost v Celtic; 2 wins v Aberdeen; 2 losses v Hibs; a 0-0 v Hearts; 1-1 v 6th.

Hearts (5th)

  • Only 1 loss in 14 came v Celtic.
  • 8 clean sheets in 11 matches but conceded in 3 of their last 4 matches.
  • 10 0-0's in 14 at halftime.
  • 11 of 16 goals conceded away came 1st half.
  • Not beaten a top 4 side away and we saw 0-0's v Rangers and Aberdeen so this defensively adept side could be set to spoil.

Conclusions

  • Pin our hopes today to Rangers not tolerating a 2nd consecutive home defeat. Hearts are tough to score against as seen by 10 clean sheets in 14 so a 0-0 at halftime would not surprise.
  • I would take that 0-0 on 2nd half and expect Hearts not to win (I do not discount the draw). With Rangers failing to score in only 4 matches (yes v Hearts last time out too) expectation is for a goal at least from them.
  • Hearts do concede predominantly first half but I would not lay the 0-0 in the halftime score market based on their clean sheetery.

 PORTUGEUSE PRIMEIRA LIGA

20:30 - Pacos Ferreira v Benfica - 1.41 Benfica

  • 3 Benfica wins in 4 head to heads. 0-0 last visit to Pacos though.

Pacos (15th)

  • Only 2 wins in 13 matches.
  • Only 5 clean sheets.
  • 100% defeats v top 7. 2 matches v top 7 at home were 1-2 defeats.

Benfica (2nd)

  • Only 1 loss.
  • 12 wins in 15 matches.
  • Scored and conceded in 9 of their last 11 away matches.
  • Only 1 0-0.
  • 7 0-1 leads at halftime away.
  • Only played one of the bottom 5 away, a 0-2 win v bottom side.
  • No goals conceded first half away.

Conclusions

  • Benfica should be eyeing a win scoring 2+ goals today. They may concede as they have tended to of late.
  • Pacos have 2 1-2 defeats v the top 7 so that is a possibility.
  • If Pacos score first first half, lay them in the halftime market. It would be a shock as Benfica have yet to concede first half away.
