’Tis that time again…
The curse is afoot…
’Tis the Curse of the Champions League / Europa League.
Some teams, you see, tend to struggle in league matches prior to European competition matches, and there are some likely sorts this weekend.
I have highlighted these teams in my research. I would recommend you use www.soccerway.com and click on the matches for Tuesday 13th February, lovingly click on the lovely matches for Valentine’s Day, and those matches on Thursday 15th February 2018.
These give you an indication of the teams affected by European competition.
There are eight Champions League sides affected this week: Juventus, Tottenham, Basel, Manchester City, Porto, Liverpool, Real Madrid and Paris St Germain.
This is why you see Juventus play on Friday. They are away to Fiorentina. Tottenham are in a Norf Landaan derby vs Arsenal. Basel are away in the league and Man City are home to Leicester.
With these four teams and the four on Wednesday, take note of any side away from home. They may struggle. I certainly see vulnerability in Basel coming back from the winter break.
I also see vulnerability in an already iffy Real Madrid side, albeit at home to a Sociedad side which led 2-0 vs Barcelona. Paris St Germain are away from home too.
Team news will be key. Use www.flashscore.com for these teams’ league matches to see if key players are rested with Champions League/Europa League in mind.
I’ll be monitoring these teams in a live chat webinar. Prepare for possible league struggles. Some teams simply prioritise the Champions League, and even willingly sacrifice league points for Champions League readiness.
