745pm – Aston Villa v Notts Co – 1.49 home

Standout stats

  • This is the Premier League v League 2 in the League Cup.
  • These 2 teams have not met since 1992.
  • Only 2 wins in 12 matches for Aston Villa in all competitions.
  • Aston Villa have failed to score in 3 of their last 4 home matches.
  • only 2 draws in 18 League Cup matches for Aston Villa.
  • They did lose 0-1 at home to Leyton Orient in their last League Cup match last year.
  • Villa failed to score in their last 2 home League Cup matches, and that was with Benteke in the team!
  • No draw in 9 away matches for Notts County in all competitions.
  • Only 2 recent League cup matches, one was a 3-0 away loss v Sheffield Wednesday, and the other a 1-2 away win v Huddersfield for Notts County.

Profitable in-play opportunities

  • A League Two side should not have enough for a Premiership side logically.  The fact that Aston Villa lost 0-1 to Leyton Orient last year might suggest that they are layable at odds of 1.49, better yet if Villa score first as we can then reduce risk by laying at lower odds.
  • Lay any late draw.

745pm – Bury v Leicester – 1.72 away

Standout stats

Profitable in-play opportunities

745pm – C Palace v Shrewsbury – 1.48 home

Standout stats

  • Premiership Crystal Palace play League One Shrewsbury in the League Cup.
  • Crystal Palace have scored and conceded in their last 3 matches, winning 2 and losing 1-2 to Arsenal ( a match in which Palace scored the Arsenal winner.)
  • Palace have not had a draw in 12 home matches in all competitions.
  • Palace look as if they want to be rid of this League cup quickly. In 2013, Palace lost 2-1 to Bristol City. In 2014, Palace beat Walsall 0-3 and in 2014 Palace drew with Newcastle at home and went out in extra time.
  • Shrewsbury have scored and conceded in their last 7 matches in all competitions.
  • Shrewsbury have lost only 1 of their last 9 away matches in all competitions. Shrewsbury have 2 consecutive 1-1 draws away from home.
  • Shrewsbury have won 0-1 and 1-2 v Leicester and Blackburn Rovers in their last 2 away League Cup matches.

Profitable in-play opportunities

  • Palace are in a good place at the moment, a top 10 Premiership team last season. There is the slightest hint that they are non-plussed regarding the League Cup. It is not a must-win-at-all-costs.  This could be a match in which I speculatively lay Palace if Palace score first. Shrewsbury have won their last 2 away matches against solid enough yard-sticks. This is a speculative angle so I will insist on a low risk entry point.

745pm – Dinamo Zagreb v Skenderbeu – 1.27 home

Standout stats

  • Skenderbeu scored first in the 1st leg of this Champions League match, and Dinamo Zagreb scored the next 2 ( away) goals, one in the 90th minute.

Profitable in-play opportunities

  • We all know Dinamo Zagreb are imperious at home in the league. Dinamo Zagreb have drawn their last 2 home Champions League matches 1-1 so this is a sequence to end. Do note that Dinamo Zagreb will go through with a 0-1 loss today so this is not a must-win. It also makes it difficult to suggest what Dinamo will do a goal down? The market , though, is adamant.

745pm – East Fife v Motherwell – 1.34 away

Standout stats

  • This is League Two v Premiership in this Scottish League Cup match.
  • East Fife have not won in their last 6 League Cup matches.  East Fife are unbeaten in their last 4 home matches , 2 wins in 2011, a 2-2 v Greenock Morton and a 1-1 v Dumbarton.
  • 4 consecutive losses for Motherwell in all competitions.Only 1 win for Motherwell in their last 5 matches. Motherwell lost to Rangers and Aberdeen , who are Premiership sides.

Profitable in-play opportunities

  • I think that Motherwell should win this match so lay East Fife if East Fife score first ( better yet speculatively back Motherwell at enhanced odds if East Fife score first).

745pm – Forfar v Hearts – 1.34 away

Standout stats

  • This is the Scottish Cup and features in-form Hearts .
  • This is League One v Scottish Premiership.
  • Only 1 win in 6 matches for Forfar, saw 3 consecutive draws and extra time.
  • At home, Forfar beat Rangers after extra time in the League Cup in August 2013. It is not recent form.
  • Only 2 losses in 12 matches for Hearts in the League Cup. Those were a 3-2 loss v St Mirren and 3-0 away loss v Celtic.
  • Hearts have scored and conceded in 11 of their last 13 League Cup matches.

Profitable in-play opportunities

  • Do remember that this is the League Cup so don’t go over-board with it. Hearts are in excellent form in the Premiership and must be favoured if taking this match seriously. They do tend to score and concede and I would lay Forfar if Forfar score first.

745pm – Hartlepool v Bournemouth – 1.44 away

Standout stats

  • League Two Hartlepool take on Premiership Bournemouth in this League Cup match.
  • Hartlepool have not drawn a match in 13 matches in all competitions.
  • Only 2 wins in 11 matches for Hartlepool in the League Cup. Their last win was against Fleetwood.
  • Bournemouth have had a reasonable Premiership start with 2 heart-broken 1-0 losses and a 3-4 win v West Ham
  • Only 1 draw in 16 matches in the League Cup for Bournemouth. 4 consecutive wins for Bournemouth ended with a loss v Liverpool in the League Cup.

Profitable in-play opportunities

  • Tough to evaluate Bournemouth’s approach to the League Cup. Surely they’d want to focus on the Premiership rather than the League Cup. That’s where the moolah is.
  • I would lay the late draw here given the record for Bournemouth. Only Liverpool stopped Bournemouth last year in the League Cup so I would favour them today against a Hartlepool who lose heavily in the League Cup.

745pm – Hull v Rochdale – 1.57 home

Standout stats

  • This is the Championship v League One in the League Cup.
  • Only 1 loss in 11 matches for Hull in all competitions came in their last match.
  • Hull are unbeaten in 4 home matches and have won their last 2 home matches, scoring 2 goals.
  • Hull have only won 1 of their last 10 League Cup matches.  2 of Hull’s last 3 matches in the League Cup have gone to penalties.
  • Only 2 losses in 11 matches in all competitions for Rochdale.
  • Only 2 wins for Rochdale in all League Cup matches since 2004.
  • Rochdale have not won in their last 5 League Cup matches.

Profitable in-play opportunities

  • Hull are having a good season at home but they have won only 1 of their last 10 League Cup matches.  Rochdale though have only 2 wins since 2004 in the League Cup.
  • Faith in the odds today? Hull don’t seem to have a sustained interest in the League Cup.

745pm – Kilmarnock v Berwick – 1.26 home

745pm – Luton v Stoke – 1.7 away

Standout stats

Profitable in-play opportunities

745pm – Malmo FF v Celtic – 2.62 home

Standout stats

  • Oh Dear, Celtic were doing so well at 2-0 at home in the first leg of this Champions League tie.  At 2-0, we layed Celtic as Malmo were starting to get back into the match. 2-1 came. 3-1 came and that would have been an excellent scoreline for this 2nd tie. BUT Malmo scored a 90th minute 2nd goal which actually sees advantage them today.
  • Malmo need a 1-0 to go through on the away goal rule. Celtic need a 0-0 bare minimum in order to go through on aggregate.
  • In their last 4 home matches in the Champions League, Malmo failed to score in 3 home matches v Atl Madrid, Juventus, Zalgiris and did score 3 v Salzburg.
  • Celtic are not in the same league as Atl Madrid v Juventus.  Celtic have scored in 4 of their last 5 away Champions League matches against the likes of KR, Legia, Maribor, Stjarnan and a 0-0 v Qarabag.

Profitable in-play opportunities

  • This is a headscratcher. With the 0-0 prized by Celtic, can we back the 0-0 pre-match and hope that Celtic’s defence proves impenetrable.  Lay off at halftime if 0-0.
  • If Malmo score first, Celtic must score next to go through.

745pm – Monaco v Valencia – 2.32 home

Standout stats

  • These 2 teams have recent history. Valencia hosted Monaco in August 2014 and Monaco scored first ( own goal) , Valencia equalised ( Own goal), and a final 2-2.
  • The first leg of the Champions League saw Valencia win 3-1. Monaco have that away goal.
  • Monaco need a 0-2 to go through bare minimum. Valencia need a 0-0 and will tolerate a 0-1 defeat today and still go through.

Profitable in-play opportunities

  • Monaco have actually failed to score in 3 of their last 5 home matches in the Champions League. They did beat Young Boys 4-0 latest. Valencia would be a step-up.
  • Valencia were last in the Champions League in 2013. A tough match to call given that Valencia can actually tolerate a 1-0 defeat and still progress this evening. Monaco do have a very young looking side who might lack the nouse to out-do Valencia. Tough match to trade.

745pm – Newcastle v Northampton – 1.37 home

Standout stats

  • Premiership Newcastle take on League Two Northampton.
  • I think Steve McClaren will insist upon a win , despite the League Cup not being the top priority. Newcastle under Steve McClaren have not won a competitive match. That will be my angle in here today regardless of form.
  • Northampton are on a 2 match 2-0 losing streak in League Two.
  • There is no recent League cup form for Northampton against Premiership opponents, but they did record an impressive 2-3 win against Championship side Wolves ( 0-2 up though were Northampton!).

Profitable in-play opportunities

  • My angle in here? I think that Steve McClaren , at home, will want the win regardless of the competition. Let’s hope Northampton take a 0-2 lead as they did against Wolves.

745pm – Shakhtar v Rapid Vienna – 1.69 home

Standout stats

  • 0-1 to Shakhtar from the first leg of this Champions League tie.
  • 4 clean sheets for Shakhtar in their last 5 Champions League matches saw only Bayern Munich score .
  • Shakhtar have lost only 1 of their last 9 home Champions League matches and have kept 3 clean sheets in their last 4 home matches.
  • Only 1 loss in 25 matches for Rapid Vienna came v Shakhtar!
  • Rapid are unbeaten in 16 away matches in all competitions.
  • Earlier in this campaign, Rapid Vienna drew 2-2 and won 2-3 v Ajax in the Champions League.

Profitable in-play opportunities

  • An interesting match. Rapid Vienna have goals in them , and showed as much against reasonable yardsticks Ajax. Rapid are also scoring for fun domestically, albeit in a weak Austrian Bundesliga.
  • What Rapid face today is a Shakhtar side who have kept clean sheets against the likes of Bayern Munich and Fenerbahce at home.
  • I think Shakhtar could keep a clean sheet today. There may not therefore be a DRT

745pm – Sunderland v Exeter – 1.53 home

Standout stats

Profitable in-play opportunities

745pm – Swansea v York City – 1.32 home

Standout stats

  • These 2 teams have not met since 2004.
  • Swansea have drawn 5 matches in their last 6 in all competitions.
  • Swansea have kept 3 clean sheets in their last 4 matches at home in all competitions.
  • Swansea’s 2014 league cup campaign was very quick. 1-0 win v Rotherham, 3-0 win v Everton and a 2-1 loss to Liverpool at home.
  • No win in 7  away matches in all competitions for York City sees them fail to score in 5 of them.
  • York City were last in the league cup in 2012.

Profitable in-play opportunities

  • With their wins v Rotherham and Everton, I think Swansea have what it takes to beat York City before perhaps going out to a Premiership side in the League Cup. York City’s ( League 2 side) League Cup form is, well, missing so there is a question mark over that.
  • I would favour Swansea today.

745pm – Wolves v Barnet – 1.37 home

Standout stats

  • This is the Championship v League Two  in the League Cup.
  • Wolves have lost their last 2 matches, 2-3 and 2-0 in the Championship.
  • Wolves have lost only 1 of their last 12 home matches, 2-3 loss last match.
  • Wolves have scored and conceded in their last 7 home matches in all competitions.
  • Only 1 draw for Barnet in their last 12 matches in all competitions.
  • Barnet have lost 3 and drawn 1 of their last 4 away matches.
  • Barnet have only 1 recent League cup match, a loss in extra time away to Millwall. Their goal was a penalty.

Profitable in-play opportunities

  • Wolves at home are a tough side to beat. They only lost 2-3 in their only loss in 12 homes. Wolves lost to the likes of Morecambe and Northampton in recent League cup outings and beat Newport county after conceding first.
  • It is tough to enthuse about Wolves here, as it seems they are rather non-plussed about continuing in the League cup. The market has seen their home form as indicative of a potential win, but note Barnet took Millwall to extra time.
  • A hope Barnet score first today as I can see Wolves responding.
  • If you were a speculator, you might want to lay Wolves if they scored first given their under-whelming League Cup performances against Morecambe and Northampton.

8pm – West Brom v Port Vale – 1.41 home
